Forklift Truck Training Course
Operators should undergo training on an industrial-powered forklift, or lift truck to be given forklift operator certification. The training must be specific to the forklift type and attachments that you would be using on the job. Training must also reflect the environment wherein you will be working. Forklift safety must be a main concern for both the trainer and the operator trainee.
General Credentials
Anybody operating a forklift should undergo both training and certification prior to assuming operator duties. Basic qualifications for operating a forklift include an age minimum of 18 years and the physical ability to safely control and operate the unit.
Pedestrian Safety
The main concern of any forklift driver should be the safety of pedestrians. Pedestrians near the forklift are at risk of death or injury from getting hit by the machinery or its attachments. Pedestrians should always have the right of way, and forklift drivers must honk their horns when working near pedestrians or at crosswalks or intersections.
Weather Conditions
Forklift accidents often occur on loading docks. These places become hazardous if rain leaks in through open dock doors causing an extremely slippery floor. Wet floor conditions create a hazard and drivers should know potential dangers when working in loading dock areas.
Certification
Certification courses for forklift operators include both practical training and classroom instruction which could be tailored for the specific requirements of each work setting. Training must be completed on the forklift type and attachments that would be used by the trainee in the workplace.
Accidents
On average, there is about 100 deaths attributed to forklift mishaps, while over one hundred thousand are injured by forklifts. Nearly all of these accidents are avoidable with correct operator training and attention to safety.

Telescopic Forklifts
Telescopic forklifts provide versatility and height. These units are equipped with a pronged lift on an arm that extends over the top of the truck. The crane, or arm, is called a telescopic boom. The boom enables the individual utilizing it to raise the load to great heights while maintaining a high degree of control. Standard forklifts could not move the load towards and away from the forklift cab, whereas a telescopic forklift could allow that movement. The telescopic forklift is normally used in agriculture and construction. It is recommended for applications where greater control and lift is required.
A forklift carton clamp attachments are better in cases needing high volume carton handling. The attachment has arm pads with four way reversible rubber linings which enable the operator to apply uniform clamping force when lifting a cargo. It comes with a backrest which protects the loads from damage.
A sleep sheet forklift would normally use a slip sheet attachment for storing systems that don't use pallets. The attachment clamps onto the slip sheet and pulls it onto the forklift forks. This type of system is handy for intra-corporate deliveries and for overseas shipments.
A lift platform which is designed to lift employees is known as a Man Basket. It attaches to the forklift forks and a chain or strap is utilized to attach the basket to the forklift carriage. The platform has railings to protect the personnel from falling to the ground. Brackets on the platform are utilized for fastening the worker's safety harness.
